Dear Friends,
We invite you to contribute in memory of Irvin (Irv) Kricheff, MD, to benefit education and research in the field of neuroradiology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine.
Dr. Kricheff, distinguished professor emeritus of radiology at NYU Grossman School of Medicine, was a skilled educator and mentor, as well as an accomplished researcher. He was a national leader in the field of neuroradiology and had a major impact on current practices and advances in care, benefiting patients nationwide.
Dr. Kricheff developed his passion for medicine as a young child while being treated for polio. He graduated from Central High School in Philadelphia and served as a captain in the United States Army. He received his bachelor’s degree from Pennsylvania State University and his medical degree from the School of Medicine and Health Sciences at George Washington University, completing his residency at Philadelphia General Hospital and his neuroradiology training at the Neurological Institute at Columbia University Irving Medical Center.
Dr. Kricheff joined NYU Grossman School of Medicine in 1963. He served as chief of neuroradiology for 36 years and built the section into one of the top neuroradiology programs in the nation. Dr. Kricheff was a clinical pioneer, performing the first interventional neuroradiological procedure in the country. His sharp analytical mind, eagle eyes, and attention to detail established him as one of our nation’s most esteemed and sought-after neuroradiologists. During his tenure, Dr. Kricheff trained more than 300 neuroradiologists, many of whom became acknowledged leaders in the field of neuroradiology.
Dr. Kricheff served with the National Institutes of Health and as president of the American Society of Neuroradiology, was a founding member of the Eastern Neuroradiological Society, and was one of the creators of the American Journal of Neuroradiology. For his contributions and leadership, he was awarded the Gold Medal by the Radiological Society of North America in 1994 and the Gold Medal by the American Society of Neuroradiology in 1998.
Irvin Kricheff is survived by his wife of 68 years, Margie Kricheff. Together they raised three sons—David, Robert, and Mark—eventually welcoming three daughters-in-law, Bernadette, Daphne, and Allyson, to the family. Irv and Margie soon welcomed seven grandchildren—Alexander, Sophia, Sarah, Seth, Leo, Joel, and Willa.
The Kricheff family appreciates all those who desire to honor the legacy and memory of Irvin by donating in his name. Your donation is a testament to his commitment to the advancement of education, research, and care in medicine, as well as his dedication to his family and the community. He will truly be missed.
