In Memory of Joseph: Turning Courage into a Cure
On Monday, 9/22, our worlds were shattered. Our Joseph lost his courageous and immensely brave battle with cancer - a fight no one should ever have to face.
Joseph was just 30 years old when he was first diagnosed, discovered through regular colon cancer screenings because of our family's long history with the disease. He knew the road ahead would be difficult, yet he faced each day with determination and courage - always with a positive outlook and exuding happiness to those around him. Toward the end, he carried a new spirit that inspired us all to be better, not only to each other but to ourselves.
In Joseph's final days, we sat with him in the hospital, hoping and praying for a miracle. But it wasn't until after he passed that we realized - he was the miracle. He brought us all together, surrounded by the people he loved and who loved him back.
None of us know how much time we have in this world, but we can choose how we spend the time we know we have. That's all Joseph wanted in the end - just more days with his family to sit with them and joke with them and be able to say I love you one more time.
Today, we are committed to honoring Joseph's memory through action and fighting for a cure - just as he did till his very last breath. Please help us by donating in his honor. Every donation will go directly to NYU Langone's recently launched Gastrointestinal Cancer Center. This new center will expand and deepen GI cancer care for patients in showing tangible improvements in outcome - hopefully saving more lives like Joseph's.
Together, we can honor Joseph's brave spirit and make a real difference.
