NYU Langone’s Harkness Center for Dance Injuries has proudly provided educational outreach programs for the dance community since its founding in 1989 thanks to the generosity of the Harkness Foundation for Dance and others. Please consider supporting these vital resources.
No donation is too small, and every gift helps subsidize wellness and dance injury prevention education for diverse dance schools, companies, and organizations that may not otherwise be able to afford this integral programming.
In addition to Foundations of Injury Prevention, examples of workshops that Harkness Center clinicians have recently provided the dance community (students, professionals, faculty, and parents) include: Dynamic Warm-Up; Stretching Science; Nutrition for Dancers; Stress Management; “Bodies”: Adolescent Injury Prevention; Pointe Readiness; Boys Training Considerations; and Self-Release Techniques.
Hear what some of our workshop participants have shared:
“I thought that tonight’s Harkness Center lecture on nutrition with Mr. Zinser was EXCELLENT!! Thank you for putting it together. My daughter really enjoyed it. There was great information and perfectly directed for the age group in a language that they can understand. This information will no doubt make a difference for a lifetime. I just wanted to say thank you, well done and keep these great chats coming!”
– American Ballet Theatre Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis School parent
“The class taught by Joshua Honrado was incredible, thank you!”
– University of North Carolina professor Tod A. Kubo
“I wanted to thank the Harkness Center for once again coming to our school and sharing such important information with our students about their health and well-being. While they are young, those students with real interest in this work will greatly benefit from these early conversations about healthy habits and mindsets for optimal dance performance. With every session we have with Harkness, you help to facilitate the vision of providing more access to our students.”
– Ballet Tech Artistic Director Dionne Figgins
“We love having any instructor from Harkness come to give lectures to our dance students!”
– Broadway Dance Center Director of Educational Programming Kwabena Edwards
“Another successful dance education session with Harkness and Alison Deleget...Thank you, Alison, for your expertise and openness to the students' questions.”
– Patricia G. Cohen, Adjunct Faculty, Dance Education Program, MPAP, NYU/Steinhardt
