After surviving breast cancer, philanthropist and former United States ambassador to Trinidad and Tobago, Beatrice Welters wanted to “pay it forward” by educating women about the importance of early detection and treatment. And so in 2016, the Beatrice W. Welters Breast Health Outreach and Navigation Program was created.
The Welters program provides outreach, screening, and navigation in medically underserved communities throughout New York City. Patient navigators go into the communities to meet women where they live. The navigators play a pivotal role in supporting women through one-to-one interaction navigating the sometimes complex health care system. Hear from the patients and navigators themselves.
Growth of the program into other communities can only happen through support. We have dreams of expanding this program into new communities, getting women into clinical trials, providing genetic counseling, and so much more. These women deserve our help but we can’t do it without you. Your support will make a difference.
