Welcome to The Hoffman Family Fund for the SUDCRRC
I’m creating a lasting legacy for our daughter, Billie, by supporting a cause that is close to our hearts—driving breakthroughs in medicine and supporting world-class care at NYU Langone Health. Billie died on August 2, 2023, at just 35 months old. Her death was sudden, unexpected, and remains mostly unexplained, a category of death called SUDC. Two days before her death Billie had a febrile seizure, which was thought to be benign though was a key piece to her cause of death. Through the tireless efforts of the SUDCRRC we learned that Billie died from viral meningomyeloencephalitis. The SUDC research and registry collaborative (SUDCRRC) out of NYU is the worldwide leader in developing and conducting research on SUDC, particularly in the role of febrile seizures in SUDC. We were lucky enough to get connected to the SUDCRRC from day one. We enrolled as participants in their ongoing research study, and in return have gained invaluable insight into Billie’s death through the completed case study. The interdisciplinary team’s unwavering support of our family, tireless effort, and unbounded dedication give us hope. From tragedy, we have found tremendous meaning and fulfillment through each day we have worked with the SUDCRRC. Together, we will work toward finding underlying causes and preventing these unspeakable losses. We now host an annual fundraising walk, with a 5-year goal of raising $100,000 for research. (An additional $11,272 for the SUDCRRC was raised in our first fundraising year that is not reflected in the totals on this page.)
