Running 26.2 miles is incredibly exhilarating and part of the thrill is knowing that I will not let my epilepsy be a barrier towards hitting the finish line.
After 15+ years of having 2 seizures leaving me unconscious, I can live an active lifestyle while managing my own condition due to clinical care leading to proper medications.
This November, I’m lining up for my 7th marathon, and I’m proud to be running for FACES (Finding a Cure for Epilepsy and Seizures). This organization is part of NYU Langone’s Comprehensive Epilepsy Center—the same place I go for my own epilepsy management. As a patient, I’ve seen firsthand how vital NYU Langone’s Comprehensive Epilepsy Center’ research and clinical care are for patients.
As a runner, I’ve spent years proving that a neurological condition doesn’t have to dictate the limits of my physical goals. I’m running to represent the community of patients who manage this condition every day and to support the programs – such as new study launches, advancement of clinical care treatments, and community support programs - that make that management possible.
If you’re able to donate, your support goes directly toward NYU Langone’s mission to improve lives and find a cure. If you're near the course on race day, come out and give me a cheer during my run.
