I was part of the rare percentage that was diagnosed with thoracic outlet syndrome. Getting diagnosed was an immensely difficult process due to its rarity and lack of awareness. I was originally diagnosed with carpal and cubital tunnel and received surgery. However, the root cause of all my symptoms was due to thoracic outlet syndrome. The symptoms were very similar for both of these conditions so it was highly unlikely that I would have TOS. After being diagnosed, a brachial plexus specialist had told me "I have never seen anyone in real life with your case." This helped me better grasp the infrequency and rarity of these diagnoses. I wanted to help raise awareness and provide funding for more research to be executed on this rare condition.
