The Prevention Education Partnership
The Problem:
Schools in New York City and nationwide struggle to deliver high-quality drug education and harm reduction skills to keep students safe in the face of rapidly evolving health threats.
The Prevention Education Partnership (PEP) trains and mobilizes doctors, trainees, and other medical professionals to deliver PEP Talks, our innovative drug education curriculum for students, teachers, and parents in NYC schools and beyond. Current efforts are focused on ensuring teens understand the risks of fentanyl and schools are equipped with the life-saving antidote naloxone.
PEP is an initiative of the Ronald O. Perelman Department of Emergency Medicine dedicated to decreasing preventable illness and injury and keeping youth safe, healthy, and out of the emergency department.
What we have achieved:
PEP has trained over 1,000 instructors and reached over 15,000 students, parents, and school staff. Our work helps change attitudes and promote behaviors that prevent harm and keep kids safe.
“[PEP Talks] makes me see things in a way I haven’t seen them. Now I look at drugs like, ‘This could actually happen to me.’”—Brian Duran, student
“Talking with a doctor about real life, I watch my students get more engaged than in many of their other classes.”—Jackson Schaefer, teacher
What we hope to achieve and expand in the future:
Your support will help us expand our reach in NYC and beyond.
