Hi friends! I'm super excited to announce that I am running the 2023 NYC Marathon as part of TeamFACES at NYU Langone! FACES (Finding a Cure for Epilepsy & Seizures) is an incredible organization about which I care deeply. It provides funding for research into the study of epilepsy and seizures, as well as provides incredible community and educational support to patients and their caregivers. Without the support and leadership of FACES, my mentors and I would not be able to complete research that works toward the goals that we all share - developing novel treatments, providing the highest quality of care, and finding a cure. And, without FACES, the patients and caregivers with whom we are fortunate to interact would not have a comprehensive support system that provides them with community and, most importantly, hope.
On a personal note, I wish to dedicate this run to my grandmother. She suffered from seizures when I was young, and, thankfully, was successfully treated with medication. Because of the care she received, I was - and still am - able to laugh with her, receive her love, listen to her wisdom, and witness her grace. She recently turned 95 in May, is officially a 10 year hemorrhagic stroke survivor (yay, Grandma!), and is the strongest, kindest person I know. I know I'll hear her cheers all the way from Boston, and like any Italian-Albanian grandmother, I know she'll serve as my top "nutritionist" during training. :D

On Sunday, November 5, 2023, TeamFACES will be represented by 10 athletes that will run in this year's TCS NYC Marathon to spread epilepsy awareness and raise funds in support of FACES mission: To improve the quality of life for all those affected by epilepsy and seizures with the hope of finding a cure.
